Privacy Policy
Effective Date: January 18, 2026
At Plain Flashcards, we believe that your data belongs to you. Our app is designed to work locally on your device, ensuring that your study materials and personal habits remain private.
1. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Flashcards & Lists: Your study content is stored exclusively on your device. We do not have servers that sync or store your flashcards.
- Personal Identity: We do not require a login. We do not know your name, email address, or physical location.
- Translation Texts: When you use the translation feature, your text is processed by our private backend. We do not log or store the content of these translations.
2. Information We Collect
To provide a stable experience, we use limited third-party services that collect pseudonymous data:
- Usage Analytics (Google Analytics): We collect anonymized interaction data (e.g., "Study Session Started"). This is not linked to your identity.
- Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics): Technical reports are sent during crashes to help us fix bugs. These contain no personal content.
- Purchases (RevenueCat): We use a random device identifier to manage your subscription status. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple.
3. Translation Services
Our translation feature is powered by a private, unmodified instance of LibreTranslate, an open-source translation engine licensed under the AGPL v3.0.
- Privacy: We do not store or log the text you translate.
- Security: Data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS.
- Technical Logs: Our backend server may temporarily log standard technical metadata (such as IP addresses) for the sole purpose of preventing service abuse and ensuring security. These logs are rotated and deleted regularly.
4. Diagnostic Logs
The app generates local technical logs on your device. These are never sent automatically. You may choose to share these logs manually via the iOS Share Sheet for troubleshooting purposes. Logs are stored as plain text so you may review them before sharing.
5. Children’s Privacy
Plain Flashcards is intended for a general audience (ages 10+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has shared diagnostic logs with us, please contact us for immediate deletion.
